Mututho calls for sacking of 23 county commissioners

Chairman of the National Campaign Against Drug Abuse (Nacada) John Mututho has called the sacking of 23 county commissioners who have failed to profile bars in their respective counties.

Mr Mututho called on the Cabinet Secretary for Interior Joseph Ole Lenku to sack the county commissioners for failing to carry through a directive from the President, starting with the county commissioner for Narok.

At least nine people have died in Narok County in the past three days after consuming a toxic brew. According to Mr Mututho, the number of deaths could be more since officers had colluded to hide the actual number of casualties.

Mr Mututho, at a press conference on Sunday, also turned the gun on the management and staff at Nacada, saying 85 per cent of them are incompetent.

“I say that 85 per cent of the employees there at Nacada are not worth working for that organisation. I do not know how they were recruited. I was not there but if I take them through an interview on what we expect Nacada to be doing, then certainly they are not fit,” he said.

He heaped blame on chief executive Mr William Okedi and the management for stopping the testing samples of of alcoholic brands that were submitted for testing and profiling.

“For no apparent reason the management at Nacada refused to follow the board’s directive to test 3,300 alcoholic drinks and they are still there. The management at Nacada should bare the blame and should have picked particularly one drink that killed, tested it and advised Kenyans accordingly,” he said.

He claimed some members of the management are part of a broad cartel in the alcohol industry and are therefore preventing the complete execution of the organisation's duties.
