Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui has sacked his county executive member in charge of Sports, Youth and Gender Halima Gababa over what he termed gross misconduct.

Mr Kinyanjui, in a statement to the media, said he had appointed county Trade, Cooperatives and Tourism executive committee member Peter Ketyenya to act in that position.

The Governor had suspended the CEC for 60 days for what he termed “gross misconduct.”

The move came after angry youth petitioned the assembly to investigate the conduct of Ms Gababa claiming she had violated the law, and failed to diligently execute the functions and exercise authority of her office as demanded by the law.

Following the investigations, the Governor on Monday said she had been found liable for gross misconduct.

“Investigations were done and upon completion, have revealed that Ms Gababa was liable for gross misconduct,” read the statement.

The youth greeted news of her sacking with jubilation and called on Mr Kinyanjui to appoint a new CEC “who has the interest of the youth at heart.

“We’re happy Governor Kinyanjui has finally listened to the cries of the youth. We however urge him not to repeat the blunder and instead nominate a youth-friendly person to that position,” said a Mr Kimani.

The youth also claimed Ms Gababa had ignored their representative when he visited her office to inquire about a volleyball tournament.
