Passengers hit most in accidents

Passengers continue to take the heaviest toll from road carnage even as National Transport and Safety Authority data shows a decline in deaths and injuries through road accidents.

Comparative data for the first six months of 2016 and 2017 show that overall death on the road has dropped by 9.6 per cent from the 1,457 recorded last year to 1,366 recorded as at June 14.

The data show that 21 more passengers have died since January rising to 342 compared to 321 last year. However,  the number of drivers who died from the accidents fell 18.7 per cent.
