The anti-graft agency and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Tuesday sought more time to table documents on the ownership of the controversial 134-acre Karen land in Parliament.

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) and the criminal investigations bureau said they need a month to complete investigations into the land saga that is the subject of court action and parliamentary probe.

The widow of former Nairobi provincial commissioner John Mburu, businessman Horatius Da Gama Rose and the ex-National Social Security Fund boss Jos Konzolo have laid claim to the land valued at Sh8 billion.

“We undertake to provide this committee with a full report on our investigations once we complete it. We have received some documents from the Lands ministry and parties alleging ownership on the same although we are yet to ascertain if they are genuine,” EACC director Mumo Matemu told the National Assembly committee on Land.

Mr Matemu and DCI chief Ndegwa Muhoro declined to table the documents, arguing that the move will hurt the ongoing investigations.

“Within 30 days we will be able to give our joint report on whether we will take people to court or not,” said Mr Muhoro, who defended himself against accusation by the opposition Cord that he owns a piece of the Karen land.

Detectives are investigating how ownership of the 134.4 acres opposite Hillcrest Schools along Langata Road changed hands.

The protracted court disputed was instigated by Mr Da Gama Rose through his company Muchanga Investments Limited, when he claimed that some unknown companies had grabbed his farm and were in the process of subdividing it.

He sued Telesource Com Limited, Habenga Holdings, Jina Enterprises Ltd, Director of Survey, Director of Physical Planning, Ministry of Land, Registrar of Titles and Chief Land Registrar over the alleged illegally acquisitions.

Telesource Limited maintains it legally bought the land from Jina Enterprises who allegedly bought it from Habenga Holdings.
