Millions of Nairobi residents can now heave a sigh of relief after Health Cabinet Secretary Sicily Kariuki directed that Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (Kemsa) resume supply of medicine to all city hospitals.

"I direct Kemsa to start supplying medicine to all Nairobi hospitals as the governor and his team sit with Kemsa management to see how the pending bills will be settled," said Kariuki speaking on yesterday during the launch of World Breastfeeding Week at Pumwani Hospital.
Kemsa had stopped supplies over a Sh235 million debt despite governor Mike Sonko settling part of it- Sh58 million in July.
On Wednesday, Health executive Hitan Majevdia and director of health services Thomas Ogaro were suspended over lack of drugs in hospitals.
Mr Sonko warned anyone found diverting medicine meant for public hospitals to their private chemists will face the full force of the law.
