The SRC set the monthly basic salary of chairpersons of all constitutional commissions at Sh854,241, vice chairpersons (Sh710,000) and members (Sh710,000).
Taxpayers will fork out Sh82.38 million as golden parachute for five commissioners of the National Police Service Commission (NPSC) whose six-year term ends on Tuesday.
Johnston Kavuludi and his team, Ronald Musengi, Esther Chui (deceased), Murshid Mohammed, Major Shadrack Muui and Mary Auma were sworn into office on October 9, 2012 by then Chief Justice Willy Mutunga.
Other commissioners who continue to hold office are Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet, Administration Police Service deputy Inspector General Noor Gabow and Kenya Police Service deputy Inspector General Edward Mbugua.
The then vice chairperson Chui died in November 2013 and her position was never filled. Ms Auma has been acting as vice chairperson since then.
“October 2, 2017, is my last day in office. I will be packing up because it is the end of my six-year contract at the helm of the NPSC. Please don’t say I snubbed Parliament if you don’t see me here,” Mr Kavuludi told the Transport committee last week.

This means that Mr Kavuludi will take home Sh19 million while the Ms Auma, Mr Musengi, Mr Mohammed and Major Muui will each pocket Sh15.84 million in sendoff package.
Mr Kavuludi has been earning an annual basic pay of Sh10.25 million while the vice chairperson and the three commissioners have each been pocketing Sh8.52 million.
The Treasury allocated the NPSC a total recurrent budget of Sh630,566,818 in the financial year ending June 2019.
In the Supplementary Budget passed by Parliament two weeks ago, the Treasury allocated the commission an extra Sh2,111,428 under the National Police Service Human Resource Management.
Article 246 of the Constitution establishes the commission that consists of a person who is qualified to be appointed as a High Court Judge, two retired senior police officers and three persons of integrity who have served the public with distinction.
It also consists the top National Police Service bosses.
