These young talents have been selected by a producer who has worked with many of the most successful performers in the country for the first concert in a series known as “Redfourth Vox: The Next Generation”.
The concert is the brainchild of the reputed voice coach and performance mentor Philip “Filah|’ Tuju.
The Redfourth Academy of Music was set up in April 2016 and has produced the popular Redfourth Chorus, a choir comprising more than 200 singers from different schools and colleges.
They may be newcomers whose names are still unknown but they have been tipped as some of the promising singers who can carry the torch for Kenyan music into the future.

The concert is the brainchild of the reputed voice coach and performance mentor Philip “Filah|’ Tuju. He has been a voice trainer for many top artists, notable the group Sauti Sol, operates his own recording label and a music training school where he mentors the next generation of performers. The Redfourth Academy of Music was set up in April 2016 and has produced the popular Redfourth Chorus, a choir comprising more than 200 singers from different schools and colleges.
The concert on June 24 at the Alliance Francaise will feature performances from Tuju’s students and mentees that include finalists from the TV reality show “I Can Sing” ahead of the show’s finale at the end of this month.
The Redfourth Chorus and Tha Movement band, a highly rated seven-piece group of musicians, will provide back up for all the performers at the concert.
Tuju promises a fresh and exciting concept showcasing the best new discoveries of musical talent performing in a fully produced concert.
“I feel this lot of youngsters are hungry to express themselves and have a desire to make a difference to Kenyan music,” he says.
According to him this young group of singers just lack the platform to showcase their talent and by introducing this monthly event he is creating the opportunity for untapped talent to flourish.
The concert is divided into five sections: the “covers” where performers will do their renditions of popular songs from Kenya and around the world; “originals” will feature new compositions in contemporary styles. In the “cultural” section, the singers will perform original or cultural songs and dances from around Kenya and Africa while the “gospel” segment will feature original and cover versions of praise and worship. The final section is dubbed “Future” and will be a showcase of children and preteens who have shown the potential to become the next generation of megastars.
The show includes finalists from the TV reality show “I Can Sing” including Dennis Baraza, Amani Mbui and Eddie Seymour who will perform energetic covers and smooth original songs. The powerful vocalist Mercy Opande will feature in the “original” and “gospel” sections of the concert.
Soila Purity Babiosa who is known for amazing ad lib skills, is another finalist from the TV show and she is hoping her performance will earn her votes to win overall competition when the winner is announced on June 29.
The performers also include acts that are signed to the Four Red Music, the recording arm of the Tuju’s music enterprise, including Lewel Muriithi.
Lewel’s playlist includes his original songs several cover versions including “I Feel It Coming” by Canadian artist The Weeknd. Vocalist Amina Ali (Aminali) will be performing in the “Covers” segment.
