Canada’s GardaWorld eyes bigger Africa market with KK Security deal

Canadian security services firm GardaWorld International has acquired African based KK Security, incorporating it into its Global Network.
The world’s largest privately owned security and cash transport services provider, says it is seeking to tap into the expertise of multinationals operating on continent.
President of GardaWorld International Protective Services Oliver Westmacott said the acquisition was a culmination of requests by their clients in East Africa.
“Our East Africa strategy is direct responses to the growing requirements of our international clients wanting us to have a strong African presence. Our clients are investing money and efforts in Africa and GardaWorld is committed to support them with their security needs wherever they are. We are truly excited about these new developments and we will continue to grow our presence in the region,” Mr Westmacott said.
The news comes just months after Rhone Capital, a global private equity firm, entered into an agreement to acquire 45 percent in GardaWorld.
With KK Security, the firm is set to muscle for space in Africa through KK’s seven-country African footprint which puts GardaWorld in direct presence in 18 countries in Africa.
KK Security, in a statement by CEO James Omwando, said it was proud of their reputation built in nearly 50 years of providing security with diligence and integrity.

In a briefing with KK Security Country managers and key clients, the two companies affirmed that the inclusion of KK in GardaWorld’s global network will not impact existing management structure and that KK will continue to operate as usual.
However, GardaWorld has appointed Nick Arnold as the MD for East Africa. He brings over 20 years experience in Africa and wider Emerging Markets and has held senior management positions in the security industry.
Mr Arnold said GardaWorld’s seeks to grow presence in Africa by extending “our world-class security and protective services to international clients with growing presence on the continent.”
