Sunshine Upperhill in Kericho could be the first hotel to set aside sophisticated guest rooms branded as Governor’s Suite targeting not only county chiefs but also other high-end dignitaries who visit Kericho.
The exclusively-furnished rooms cost Sh25,000 on bed and breakfast basis.
The hotel manager, Fred Kitui, said it was an idea based on their market analysis that could see more visits from these classes of people.
“We therefore target politicians hence the name Governor’s Suites,” he told BD Life in an interview.
The six-storey hotel situated near Moi Gardens, a few metres off the Nakuru Bomet highway, has 54 rooms.
Its outstanding architecture is a duplicate of one hotel, which the proprietor, James Mwangi, saw while he was on a business trip to Dubai.
The building is made complete by a well-manicured lawn that accentuates the simple flower garden and scattered mixture of exotic and indigenous trees.
Monkeys bask in the garden enjoying their bananas and carrots as they swing from tree to tree and balance on the perimeter wall that bears animal paintings.
Sunshine is already a favourite with families and groups.
As much as the hotel stands for strong Christian values, it is keen to offer friendly services for its clients from various religious backgrounds.
Ray’s Guest house
Rays Guest house is an exceptionally peaceful retreat on the outskirts of Kericho, also off Nakuru-Bomet highway.
Situated near the famous Chagaik Arboretum, Ray’s is surrounded by lots of indigenous and exotic trees.
From the highway, the sophisticated architecture of the hotel stands out behind tall trees and lush tea plantations.
It is an ideal place to relax and enjoy watching a variety of birds and butterfly species, vervet and Colobus monkeys, which move undisturbed.
“Our setting is just right for people who want to relax and enjoy not only the fresh air but the general ambiance,” says Mrs Rachel Yegon, the hotel owner.
All rooms at Rays are ensuite and spacious. A single room goes for Sh3,000, double Sh4,000 and triple for Sh5,000 on bed and breakfast basis.
The hotel is also ideal for weddings and receptions since the well-manicured lawns can host up to 500 people in a tent. They also have outdoor dining on the delightful lawns as well as offer outside catering.
The attractive grounds are already popular with newlyweds for their photo sessions. Many end up booking the rooms for their honeymoon.
