Some 1,300 civil servants workers who completed paying for housing units sold under a government-funded scheme will be issued with ownership papers in two weeks.

Land principal secretary Nicholas Muraguri on Wednesday said plans are underway to grant ownership documents to encourage others who are servicing mortgages to fast-track payments.

He said this will help the government to plough back the income and benefit more civil servants.

“The government wishes to fast-track issuance of titles to all public servants who have purchased houses from the Civil Servants Housing Scheme Fund (CSHSF) and have completed paying the full purchase price,” he said.

The CSHSF housing units comprising two to four bedrooms unit were sold at between Sh1.5 million and Sh7.6 million. The pilot housing units were constructed at Nairobi’s Kilimani, Kileleshwa, Ngara, Jogoo Road and Shauri Moyo areas.

To optimise on land use, the CSHSF has adopted highrise-building model with all projects being transformed into gated communities with shared amenities like playgrounds and shopping centres.

The project has benefitted 3,072 civil servants in various parts of the country. Last week it was announced 250 units would be put up in Kisumu and another 620 units in Machakos, Kiambu and Embu counties under the scheme.

The ministry says it has identified land in the three counties where old bungalows occupied by senior civil servants will be demolished to pave the way for the nine-storeyed blocks comprising of one, two and three bedroom apartments.
