The Kenya Dairy Board (KDB) has allayed fears that contaminated baby formula recalled by a French manufacturer could find its way into the local market after it emerged 15 African countries have been affected.

The board says it has never cleared any import firm dealing with products from Lactalis Company.

The powdered baby formula has been recalled from 83 countries where it has been retailing for fear it is contaminated with salmonella.

“Kenya Dairy Board can confidently confirm that none of the infant formula retailing under the brands Milumel, Picot and Celi products of French dairy group Lactalis have been cleared for entry into the Kenyan Market,” said KDB in a statement.

Naivas chief operations officer Willy Kimani confirmed it has never dealt with Lactalis products. Algeria, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Congo, Ivory Coast, Gabon, Guinea, Madagascar, Mali, Mauritania, Morocco, Seychelles, Sudan and Togo have been affected.
