Crown Paints Kenya #ticker:BERG has invested Sh3 million in a new showroom in Kisumu targeting high-end shoppers.

The facility that generated 15 new jobs will showcase premium brands in the market including decorative, automotive and protective paints as well as interior and exterior finishes, coatings and flooring products.

Competition in the industry has moved a notch up since last year when Kansai took over Sadolin and embarked on aggressive marketing.

The listed paint-maker’s chief executive officer Rakesh Rao said more showrooms are planned across East African capitals as it seeks to grow market reach.

“We have initiated several steps to target stylish and quality-conscious consumers in the commercial property market,” he said.

Mr Rao said the new showroom will also be a centre for training developers as well as the general public on paint.

The investment is the second in the region after it opened a Sh400 million automated plant with a production capacity of 1.2 million litres of paint per month.

Mr Rao said the listed firm was also targeting to grow its market share within Western Kenya region where real estate developments have increased especially in the major towns of Kisumu, Eldoret, Kitale and Kakamega.

Western Kenya mainly consumes about 80 per cent of the water-based paints sold by the firm in the region.
