A real estate firm is set to put up 168 apartments in Hurlingham as developers continue to build high-rise blocks in areas of the city previously occupied by single dweller residential units.

The project by Double Win Company Limited comprises of two blocks of 14 storeys each, according to project filings made to the National Environmental Management Authority (Nema).

“The motivation for establishment of the project is the existing high demand for affordable houses in Nairobi City County and the larger Nairobi Metropolitan region,” reads the environmental impact assessment report in part. The development follows Nairobi County government’s move allowing investors to put up high-rise residential apartments within upmarket neighbourhoods.

Already, such buildings have become the norm in Kilimani, Kileleshwa and Hurlingham, although concern remains as to whether the utility infrastructure can cope with the accelerated development.
