Three local companies have moved into Nairobi’s newest commercial bulk, cold and specialised storage facility, Alpha Business Park.

The grade A warehouse welcomed East African Sea Food, Expro Group as well as NOV Kenya—both dealing in oil and gas—as it launched operations on Tuesday. It is seeking to tap into Nairobi’s growing demand for high-quality warehousing space.

The company’s project and facilities manager Aftab Rupshi said it had put up six cold-store units for handling fresh produce and pharmaceutical products at temperatures as low as negative 20 degrees Celsius for 2,688 bulk storage pallets.

“Two other units are offering a multi-temperature (negative 20 degrees Celsius to +10 degrees Celcius) environment for 720 pallets. All units can operate independently offering a gross storage volume for 15,280 cubic metres,” he said.

The new facility also provides 40 plug-in points for refrigerated containers ferrying flowers and horticultural products among other dangerous chemical substances.

The company’s commercial manager Karan Yadav said the new specialised facility sought to cash in on the incoming multinationals looking for bases to launch operations without necessarily investing in offices and warehouses.

The facility located along the Eastern By-pass, 11 kilometres from the JKIA cargo terminal and 11.1 kilometres from Thika Road, also provides clients with offices on three floors, warehouses and lay-down areas.

Modern warehouses are also under construction at Tatu City.
