Parliament has invited local companies to tender for fitting kitchen and installing liquefied petroleum gas equipment at its multi-storeyed Sh6 billion office complex in Nairobi.

The Parliamentary Service Commission (PSC) said for kitchen fittings they were looking for “heavy commercial and as manufactured by 'MBM of Italy' or approved equivalent”.

The new property will also see an LPG tank installed ahead of its commissioning in the next two years. There are 349 National Assembly MPs while the Senate has 67.

Taxpayers are expected to save about Sh1.6 billion spent on city offices for MPs at Sh50,000 per month.

Last year Sh2 billion was allocated for completion of the complex that is being built by China’s Jiangxi International Construction Company.

The kitchen tender comes a year after another one of Sh700 million was awarded to Nightingale Enterprises Ltd that has since been contested by China Jiangxi International Kenya.
