Jubilee new apps, chatbot help insurer win Africa innovation award

Jubilee Insurance has been feted for introducing mobile apps and an artificial intelligence-(AI) powered bot that assists customers get answers on queries via mobile phones or over the Internet.
The insurer emerged top in the 2018 Innovation of the Year Award category at the 45th Africa Insurance Organisation (AIO) conference held in Accra, Ghana this week for the customer-care solution.
In February, the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) listedfirm introduced a chatbot called “Julie” – the firm’s live intelligent expert that handles customer queries and tackles everyday insurance requests.
It also introduced two mobile apps (JubiAgent and JubiCare) that enable agents and customers access self-service and e-commerce functions via mobile phones.
The apps allow agents to sell and service insurance solutions on the go, while JubiCare app allows customers access all the policy data in real-time, as well as geo-locate different Jubilee Insurance medical providers wherever they are.
“We are cognisant that technology is now integral part of the insurance value chain and we are leveraging on it to increase the uptake of insurance by offering solutions at the touch of a button,” said Jubilee Insurance Kenya chief executive Patrick Tumbo Thursday.
AIO, launched in 1972 in Mauritius, aims at developing healthy insurance and reinsurance industry in the continent, and to promote inter-African co-operation in insurance.
The current membership of the AIO is 326 members—315 of them from 45 countries in Africa and 11 associate members from seven overseas countries.
