KPA, local firms picked for Africa infrastructure awards

Three Kenyan companies and a state agency will contest for the 2018 Ai African Infrastructure Projects Developer Awards on June 18 at St Regis Hotel, Le Morne Mauritius.

A caucus bringing together 200 building environment experts and early-stage financiers shortlisted Solar Freeze, BitHub Africa and Kenya Ports Authority (KPA). Also listed was China Road and Bridge Construction (CRBC).

They are part of 50 finalists in the awards mooted by specialist investment and communications firm, Africa Investor.

They seek to appreciate private construction companies, funders, governments and project planners who support putting up infrastructure that promotes intra-Africa trade.

Africa Investor chief executive and vice chairman Hubert Danso said the event will showcase individual projects and their impact on growing global and intra-Africa trade via targeted investments.

Post-harvest solutions provider, Solar Freeze will compete for the prestigious African Social Project Developer of the Year award while BitHub, a Nairobi-based firm promoting adoption of blockchain technology and solutions across Africa, will contest for the African ICT Project Developer of the Year.

KPA, which has witnessed multibillion- shilling expansion under an ongoing modernisation programme, is contesting for the African Logistics/Transport Project Developer of the Year Award.

The Construction Company Co-developer of the Year nominee, China Road & Bridge Corporation (CRBC), has been the Mombasa-Nairobi Standard Gauge railway builder.

The event will be carried out jointly with Africa50, Africa’s top project developers’ forum.
