Industry and Trade Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya has picked former Meru County Microfinance Corporation managing director Henry Rithaa as Micro and Small Enterprise Authority (MSEA) boss.

In a Gazette notice published Friday, Mr Munya said Mr Rithaa will serve for a five-year term effective March.

“The Cabinet Secretary...appoints Henry Mwenda Rithaa to be the Chief Executive Officer of the Micro and Small Enterprises Authority,” said Mr Munya.

Mr Rithaa is also a former executive with the Youth Fund where he was lending and investment manager.

The small enterprises agency was formerly headed by Mr Patrick Mwangi.

MSEA is charged with formulating and coordinating policies that promote development and regulation of the Micro and Small Enterprises.

The appointment comes at a time many small firms have shut down over funding drought.

About 2.2 million SMEs shut over the last five years, according to a Kenya National Bureau of Statistics.
