Oigara and Mwangi in Banker of the Year list

KCB Group chief executive Joshua Oigara and his Equity Group counterpart James Mwangi have been shortlisted for the prestigious African Banker of the Year award.

The announcement made in London also saw Equity selected to contest for the African Bank of the Year while KCB will vie for the Best Retail Bank in Africa Award.

Equity and Fourth Generation Capital Ltd are also fighting it out with other African-based banks for the coveted Award for Financial Inclusion. 

Equity, KCB and Standard Chartered Bank Kenya are vying for the Socially Responsible Bank of the Year while state-owned Agricultural Finance Corporation will fight it out with other financials for the Award for Innovation in Banking.

The awards hosted by African Banker magazine will take place on May 22 at Paradise Hotel in Busan, South Korea, where the judging panel will reveal the winners for the various Africa-wide categories as well as regional categories.

Awards Committee chairman Omar Ben Yedder who is also the publisher of the African Banker magazine expressed satisfaction with the nominees, saying it showed the quality and breadth of entries received this year.
