A Chinese real-estate company has announced plans to construct a 10-floor high-end residential complex on Mbaazi Avenue in Lavington, Nairobi at a cost of Sh522 million.

The project next to Heritage Courts to be undertaken by Ahcof Investments (Kenya) Ltd will include 160 two-bedroom units. It comprises three blocks each hosting 40, 80 and 40 units respectively.

The Environmental Impact Assessment study recommends the project’s implementation saying the investors would earn handsome returns on the project apart from generating jobs, business and revenue for the county and national government.

“The benefits outweigh the associated costs and negative impacts. It will increase urban housing facilities, increase land use and improve local living standards,” it says.

A swimming pool and a gym exclusively reserved for residents are planned at gated community. Other facilities include two escalators in each block, a children’s playground, and landscaped gardens.

The EIA said the development gave investors an avenue to make money while addressing a housing deficit that currently stands at 150,000 a year.

The project on one-acre plot makes use of storeyed facilities enabling built-up area to occupy 35.5 per cent of the land while an on-ground parking bay has been reserved for 130 vehicles.

The mezzanine floor will have a parking bay for 56 vehicles.

To address water supply challenges, the project’s proponents will drill a borehole to supplement water from a local company.

This is the second project by Ahcof which also developed Astoria Apartments that comprise one- and two-bedroom apartments in Lavington.
