Italian building and construction consortium Dasa S.R.L has partnered with Kenya’s Guru Ltd with an eye on the East African market.
Guru Ltd managing director Lucy Kina said the venture will see the firms set up a showroom in Nairobi stocked with finished Italian decorative stone products, interior décor and construction equipment.
“We are responding to demand for Italian interior décor and design-specific products for domestic fittings. Twenty companies have confirmed joining the association which will provide Kenyan builders with a technology transfer platform for Italian tiles, wall decors, fittings as well as use of Italian machines,” said Ms Kina.
Italian trade attache Paulo Rotili welcomed the partnership saying Italian companies were keen to establish a foothold in Kenya.
“We plan to hold a trade exhibition in October for Italian companies to showcase their products to Kenyan builders, real estate investors and developers with the possibility of building business linkages,” Mr Rotili said.
Architect Anne Kabue said the presence of real estate developers from across the world and the rising commercial buildings across Kenya had helped Guru Ltd forge the partnership.
Local firms spend a fortune importing products from Italy but lack professional fitters.
“We now have a solution to this challenge as the incoming companies will have to bring in trainers to impart skills to Kenyan builders who will be hired to carry out various indoor and outdoor projects,” said Ms Kina.
Among companies visiting Kenya to showcase their products are Imso, Euroguarco, Madras, Dansk, Kilimanjaro and Protrade as well as RM Electric.
