  • East African Portland Cement has attained re-certification for ISO 14001 on environmental management system, and OHSAS 18001 for occupational health and safety.
  • The milestone has placed the company among organisations in Kenya that emphasise pollution prevention and safety of workers and other parties.

East African Portland Cement achieved ISO certification as part of its turnaround strategy.

This will provide a basis for the organisation to ensure environmental safety and continual improvement, said a company official, Mr Simon Peter ole Nkeri.

On Wednesday, the company’s senior management officials walked tall as the group attained re-certification for ISO 14001 on environmental management system, and OHSAS 18001 for occupational health and safety.

Mr Nkeri attributed the achievement to the company’s commitment to regulating, streamlining and building capacity in the manufacturing industry for sustainable socio-economic development.

The milestone has placed the company among organisations in Kenya that emphasise pollution prevention and safety of workers and other parties.

“The company will strive to ensure strict adherence to quality, safety and sustainability in the manufacturing industry alongside fundamental principles of environmental conservation, planning and structural soundness,” said Mr Nkeri.

He said the integration of the two standards was in line with the company’s turnaround programme.

The adoption of an environmental quality management system, said Mr Nkeri, was a strategic decision to improve the company’s performance.

Kenya Bureau of Standards managing director Charles Ongwae applauded the organisation for its efforts in environmental management.
