The Jamhuri High School in Nairobi was on Wednesday closed indefinitely following a fight among students that left seven of them with serious injuries.

The notice of closure came after Nairobi security bosses held a meeting with the school administration.

Seven students were seriously injured during a fight at the school on Tuesday night.

Some of the students were admitted to hospitals with stab wounds.

It is not clear how some students managed to get into the school with machetes and knives.

Broke out

The fight broke out after a section of the students protested alleged discrimination on the basis of religion, students said.

The school's principal, Fred Awuor, was also injured during the brawl.

On Wednesday morning, Nairobi police bosses had visited the school to investigate the incident.
