Othaya parliamentary hopeful Gichuki Mugambi has hit out at the area MP Mary Wambui saying she has slept on the job for the last four years.

Mr Mugambi, an ally of former President Mwai Kibaki, unsuccessfully vied for the seat in 2013 on a Saba Saba Asili party ticket despite getting support from Mr Kibaki who also campaigned for him in the constituency.

He said Ms Wambui had failed to complete projects started by her predecessor who was Mr Kibaki.

Addressing Chinga Bodaboda Welfare Association members during a thanksgiving day at Chinga Stadium on Tuesday, Mr Mugambi said Othaya was due for change of leadership.

“Ensure you vote for me in the forthcoming April Jubilee party primaries so that we can send the MP home. She took the Othaya flag you passed on and went into a deep slumber after taking over office,” Mr Mugambi added.

He said he had helped initiate several development projects when he served as Othaya Development Association (ODA) chairman, completed many of them but some stalled after Ms Wambui took over.

ODA was an association that assisted the former president to implement projects in his Othaya backyard as he concentrated on national matters.

“The projects we completed are visible even to date but it is sad that some, such as tamarking of roads and construction of Othaya District Hospital have not been done even for an inch for the last four years,” said Mr Mugambi.

However, construction of the hospital resumed recently following the intervention of President Uhuru Kenyatta.

He said the locals’ choice of leader would determine whether the area will move forward or lag behind for another five years.

He said Othaya Constituency neighbours Aberdare Forest which is one of the major water towers in the country and is endowed with a dam and numerous rivers hence no one should go hungry for lack of food.

Mr Mugambi said it was sad to see relief food been distributed in the area last week while the constituency had the potential to produce enough food for local consumption.
