Governor Stephen Sang has extended the contracts of more than 1,400 workers of Nandi County which expired Thursday for another three years.

Most of those issued with new contracts are workers who were previously hired under the regime of ex- Governor Cleophas Lagat whose jobs are now guaranteed up to 2021

A total of 26 out of 47 counties replaced their governors in the 2017 General Election.

"All the 26 new governors serving their first term in office picked new teams when they assumed office but I decided to work with staff under the County Secretary, Dr Francis Sang because I never wanted to victimise workers,” said Mr Sang

The Governor said the county was focused on providing quality service adding that the Public Service Board had vetted workers before employing them.

He said the newly employed health staff, including 100 nurses, 60 clinical officers and 14 doctors had been deployed to work in Kapsabet and Nandi Hills County Referral Hospital where new equipment such as the CT-scan have been installed to serve patients.

Last Month Dr Lagat and Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei asked Mr Sang to ensure workers his administration inherited were not sent home.

The former governor warned that the sacking of staff could split Nandi County into camps supporting different leaders.

Cherargei demanded that the county suspend letters which had been issued by the county secretary last December revoking contracts of hundreds of workers.
