The growth of the market has mostly been driven by devolution and the rapidly expanding middle class in the county.
Among hospitality brands that have set up in Kisii are Ufanisi Resort, Nyakoe Hotel, Mash Park Hotel, Itibo Resort, Water Park Hotel, Sameta Hotel, Magharibi Hotel and Kisii Sports Club. They offer a offer bed and conferencing services.
Trade, tourism and Industry county executive Samuel Osoro said the conference tourism has been mostly boosted by devolution.
Mr Osoro said the public has been criticising county officials that they incur huge costs by holding forums outside the area.
He said now that there are good conference facilities in Kisii, there is no reason for the county to hold its meeting elsewhere.
“Hotels play an important role in the tourism industry as they provide venues for meetings as well as accommodation for the delegates. The evolution of hotel tourism in counties will also contribute more revenue to the sector,” he said.
Director of the Ufanisi Resort, Isabella Lumumba said conferences services generate the highest amount of revenue for the enterprise.
“There is a lot of competition among hotels in this county and that has resulted in improved services. Being one of the best, we are working on marketing our brand to attract both local and foreign tourists,” she said.
With the campaign season in full swing, political strategy meetings are the newest source of revenue for hotels.
