There is tension in Nakuru town after hawkers threatened to return to the streets starting Wednesday evening.

Residents woke up to scenes of hawkers demarcating parking lots Wednesday along Kenyatta Avenue, which is the town’s main street, Gusii and Neru Pundit roads.

It is still not clear what was occasioning their return to the streets since January 2015 when they were forced out of the CBD by the county government.

Shop owners were caught unawares as they were spotted outside their premises in small groups.

Hawkers’ presence in the central business district made it difficult to use the pavements and side-walks.

Traders in food produce were taken back to Wakulima Market.
