  • Mr David Gitau had expressed fears over his life shortly after another official was gunned down in unclear circumstances.

The sixth official of the troubled Nakuru Workers Co-operative Society was shot dead on Wednesday night in what members now fear was a well planned killing.

The incident has left residents of Pipeline Estate in Nakuru town in panic as it emerged that Mr David Gitau had expressed fears over his life shortly after another official was gunned down in unclear circumstances.

Mr Gitau is said to have been in the company of a female friend identified as Beth Wandia who was also killed. Mr Gitau was the secretary of the sacco.

Five other officials of the society have died under mysterious circumstances. Wellington Oduor, the treasurer of the group, was gunned down outside his house by unknown men last November.

“Since I joined the committee in June this year I have received calls from senior people in government and even been threatened.

‘‘The question that remains unanswered is why these officials are being eliminated,” Mr Gitau said at the time.

The officials had been tasked with overseeing issuing of title deeds to members, a process which has been futile since 1992. The deeds would legalise ownership of the contested 100-acre piece of land which was subdivided in 1990.
