Chinese firms win Sh18bn tender for Isebania-Ahero road upgrade

Two Chinese firms have been awarded Sh18 billion tender to rehabilitate and upgrade Isebania-Kisii-Ahero Road to bitumen standards.

The Kenya National Highway Authority (KeNHA) said China Henan International Corporation Group and the Third Engineering Bureau of China City Construction will undertake the rehabilitation of the 206km road.

The first lot of Kisii-Ahero will be rehabilitated by China Henan at a cost of Sh8.6 billion and will include upgrading of Suneka-Rangwe and Nyachenge-Tabaka-Ogembo feeder roads, among others.

The second lot will be undertaken by Third Engineering Company at a cost of Sh9.4 billion. Running from Kisii to Ahero, it will include Oyugis-Kendu Bay, Misambi-Ekerenyo and Oyugis Gamba feeder roads among others.

“The project starts at Isebania in Migori County, it traverses Homa Bay, Kisii, Nyamira Counties terminating at Ahero in Kisumu County,” said KeNHA in a statement.

The project road will form part of A1 Road, which connects South Sudan to the North of Tanzania through Kenya.
