Voter detail verification starts Friday

Registered voters will from Thursday for the next 30 days physically verify their details at their polling stations as the electoral agency delay verification via the Internet and mobile phones.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Wednesday said it had opened the verification and allow it test the biometric voter technology.

The IEBC said it will allow online and SMS inspection after 15 days or midway through the 30 days to allow people to troop to the polling stations for the physical verification.

The law demands the biometric voter technology to be tested 60 days to the poll date of August 8.

IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati said the verification process will allow voters to interact with the technology.

Raila Odinga disputed the result of the 2013 race, which he lost to Uhuru Kenyatta after electronic voter identification and other election systems collapsed.

The Kenya Integrated Election Management System will tell polling station, voter photo, gender and ID.
