The Kenya Bureau of Standards’ (Kebs) move to launch investigations into a brand of sanitary products following complaints by consumers is the right step.

Several users have complained about the quality and negative reactions they have experienced after using the products. they also claimed that pads sold in the country were of inferior quality compared to those sold in Western markets.

Kebs says that it has already taken samples for analysis of all brands of sanitary towels that are sold in the Kenyan market. We aver that the step taken by Kebs is the right one since as the agency responsible for regulating product standards it must ensure that consumers are sold the right goods.

The goal of the investigations is not to apportion blame but to ensure that each and every product sold in the country pass the quality test as per the country’s regulations.

The move by the agency could result in the withdrawal of the product if found to be sub-standard or the declaration of a clean bill of health.

We urge that the government agency be given time to conduct its investigations and come up with a ruling.
