Uhuru to hold talks with PM Modi, automaker Tata during India visit

President Uhuru Kenyatta arrived Tuesday morning in Ahmedabad, India, on a two-day State visit that will be preceded by his attendance of the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit.

The president, who is the chief guest at the 8th edition of the summit, is scheduled to hold a one-on-one meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi before addressing the forum.

The central focus of the meeting is “Sustainable Economic and Social Development”.

Mr Kenyatta will also hold talks with industry chiefs from leading firms in India including Tata, the country's largest manufacturer in the automotive industry, technology services firm Infosys and Torrent Pharmaceuticals.

Bilateral talks

On Wednesday, Mr Kenyatta will be in New Delhi where he will meet Indian President Pranab Mukherjee and lead the Kenyan delegation in bilateral talks with Mr Modi and his delegation.

The main areas of the bilateral talks will include collaboration in trade, healthcare, manufacturing, security, defence and Information, Communication and Technology.

President Kenyatta is also in the country to drum up support for Kenya as an attractive destination for Indian investors especially in the healthcare sector in which India is a major player.

After the talks, Kenya and India are expected to sign a number of agreements before Mr Kenyatta and PM Modi hold a joint press conference.

President Kenyatta will later meet Indian Vice President Hamad Ansari and also address a Kenyan diaspora meeting.

He is also scheduled to attend a Kenya-India business forum.

Mr Kenyatta’s state visit to India follows a similar one by Mr Modi to Kenya last year that saw the signing of seven deals.
