Basco Paints has launched a new line of its Duracoat paints that it says has anti-ageing properties, giving the coat longevity on walls.
The Nairobi-based paints maker said the Duracoat Silicone Exterior Emulsion range, which is a water paint, is resistant to extreme weather conditions and comes with a warranty of 15 years.
The launch comes as the country continues to witness increased activity in the construction sector as investors set up shopping malls, office blocks and apartments requiring huge quantities of paint.
“We are confident that this is a game changer in the construction industry and solves an age old challenge of flaking, cracking and ageing of exterior coatings over a period of time,” the company’s managing director Kamlesh Shah said in a statement.
He added that the new paint is 23 per cent cheaper than what is currently on the market. The paints manufacturer, known for its Basco and Duracoat brands, also has a supply footprint in Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, DRC and South Sudan.
Construction sector officials urged other players to innovate more to meet changing market needs.
“The challenge posed by drastic climatic conditions globally has pushed manufacturers to seek solutions to damaged exterior paints,” said Aidah Munano, the Principal Secretary for State Department of Housing and Urban Development at the launch.
