Ride-hailing and delivery startup Bolt plans to introduce its parcel delivery service in Mombasa and Kakamega, among other towns, as part of an expansion drive to capitalise on the growing e-commerce industry.
The service dubbed Bolt Send, which operates in Nairobi, has been integrated into the existing Bolt app for customers to request deliveries the same way they book rides. The parcels are picked up and dropped off by vetted driver-partners.
The users are able to track their parcels in real-time and receive a price estimate based on distance and demand.
“Bolt Send services are currently available, exclusively, within Nairobi. However, we plan to launch within other cities such as Mombasa, Kakamega, etc, in phase 2 of our service expansion,” Dimmy Kanyankole, Bolt Kenya Country Manager, said.
“These services will operate with the same convenient door-to-door delivery model that our customers currently experience within Nairobi, ensuring seamless and efficient transportation of goods across different cities. Intercity deliveries shall be considered pending service uptake.”
Competition has intensified in Kenya’s parcel delivery market. Some of the industry’s established players include Fargo Courier and G4S Courier have been dominating the space, with Fargo recently introducing its tech-driven solutions, which include same-day delivery and real-time parcel tracking.
While these firms primarily target the corporate space and cross-county logistics, Bolt is betting on the everyday convenience and integration with its platform to capture individual users and small businesses.
“We’re making last-mile delivery as seamless as booking a ride, significantly enhancing speed and efficiency for our valued customers, while simultaneously unlocking new earning opportunities for our dedicated driver-partners,” Mr Kanyankole said.
