Hemingways takes over luxury boutique hotel Eden Nairobi

Family-owned hotel group Hemingways Collection has taken over the management of Eden Nairobi, increasing the group's hotel portfolio to four.   

The exclusive Eden Nairobi, which was recently featured in Fodor’s Finest Hotels list, is located in upmarket Karen and will now be renamed Hemingways Eden.

The boutique hotel is a nine-bedroom property that was designed and built by artists Tonio and Anna Trzebinski originally as a family home. 

"The management takeover of Hemingways Eden is a strategic move to diversify our portfolio and expand our offering. It is also an opportunity for us to manage a unique and iconic property in a premier location in the heart of Karen, Nairobi. The standards of service will be consistent with those of our existing properties," Hemingways Group CEO Ross Evans.

The other Hemingway properties include Hemingways Nairobi, Ol Seki Hemingways Mara and Hemingways Watamu. The group said in a statement that Eden will remain a hub for art and culture as it maintain the hotel's a top choice for luxury travellers. 

"Eden Nairobi has been one of the bravest and most beautiful journeys of my life, it has taught me so much about coming full circle and has helped me lay the foundations for the next chapter.  This unique and exquisite place has become a hub for Nairobi creatives and an incubator for social change and outreach through the arts (The Eden Project)," said Anna Trebinski.

Kenya has seen increased hotel expansions as local and global brands open new facilities as tourism recovers to pre-covid levels. 

Twenty-four global hotel brands are considering opening new facilities in Kenya in 2022 as the industry recovers from the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic. 

The new hotels will bring to the market 3,155 new hotel rooms, according to the survey by hospitality advisory firm W Hospitality Group, making Kenya the top seven hotspots for new luxury hotels in the African continent.

Global hospitality chain Hilton has already announced the open a new hotel in the country –Kwetu Nairobi, Curio Collection by Hilton— in February next year.

Sarova Hotels and Resorts has also taken over the iconic Kisumu Imperial Hotel in a new management deal set to see it make a debut in Western Kenya.

In March, US hotel chain Marriott signed an agreement with Baraka Lodges Limited to open its first luxury safari lodge in Masai Mara, which will be opened next year. The Mara lodge will be the fourth property by the chain in Kenya.

Other leading luxury hotels in Kenya that have announced an expansion in the last few years include Carlson Rezidor and Acacia Premier among others.
