How three insurers collapsed with Sh3.4bn clients’ claims

Three Kenyan insurers, which were recently placed under statutory management and barred from taking on new business, owed customers more than Sh3.43 billion in unpaid claims as of December 2025, revealing the financial pain for more than 20,000 claimants.
The latest claims settlement records by the Insurance Regulatory Authority (IRA) show that Trident Insurance Company, Kuscco Mutual Assurance and Corporate Insurance Company—all under caretaker management— owed the amount to 20,852 claimants.
