AIC Kijabe Hospital has picked a new executive director for the facility to replace Dr Ken Muma, who resigned in early 2022.

The board of the mission hospital has appointed Dr Chege Macharia with effect from January 11, 2023.

Following Dr Muma’s exit, Dr Pete Halestrap held the role in an acting capacity.

Dr Macharia has been an otolaryngologist (head and neck surgeon) at Kijabe in Kiambu County for five years prior to his appointment to head the hospital.

He has over 15 years of experience as a doctor and in business and board management.

“This is another chapter to advance the 108- yearlong history of the institution in providing compassionate healthcare. I believe the hospital has a role in shaping healthcare provision in the region,” Dr Macharia said in his acceptance speech.

He also pledged an open-door policy while highlighting the need for crucial conversations for accountability.

Dr Macharia holds a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery from the University of Nairobi.
