Retail chain QuickMart Supermarket has been ordered to pay a Nairobi shopper a symbolic Sh10,000 after the High Court ruled that a public frisk triggered by a faulty alarm amounted to defamation and unlawful embarrassment.

The court found that William Rasowo was unjustly subjected to a humiliating search at a QuickMart outlet after an exit alarm sounded, wrongly suggesting he had stolen goods.
