The retailer started operations at the building situated at the junction of Moi Avenue and Harambee Avenue on Friday, stepping up competition for customers with retailers such as Naivas that has a presence in the area.

QuickMart’s chief operations officer Stephen Karanja told the Business Daily in an interview yesterday that the new store is targeting customers heading to Nairobi’s train station as well those working along Harambee Avenue offices.

“We shall be opening QuickMart Pioneer branch tomorrow (Friday) morning. The route is strategic to Nairobi’s Central railway station terminus which has the right traffic flow,” said Mr Karanja.

The new outlet, coming at a time former retail giant Tuskys has closed several of its branches will become QuickMarts’ 38th branch in the country and its third outlet in the busy Nairobi CBD.

The store will provide employment to about 100 workers in Nairobi. The expansion by QuickMart comes at a time Tuskys Supermarkets is facing serious cash flow hitch that has sparked a dispute with suppliers.
