Thika-based motor vehicles assembler KVM has said it will start assembling the Mobius car next month, with an initial target of producing 50 units.

The brainchild of American citizen Joel Jackson, Mobius is expected to be Africa’s cheapest car priced at less than Sh1 million.

The Kenya Vehicle Manufacturers (KVM) managing director David Percival said units could be ready for sale in July.

‘’We will start off with 50 units and going forward the number may go up based on the demand. So far, the response has been good and the car will hit the market soon,’’ said Mr Percival.

Mobius Motors received an undisclosed capital injection from US billionaire Ronald Lauder last week. The money will be used to assemble the first set of vehicles and establish a distribution network.

The firm will have its main showroom at Sameer Business Park along Nairobi’s Mombasa Road.

Mr Percival said that starting next month KVM will embark on setting up steel frameworks for the vehicles. Mobius Motors will be built from imported parts.
