Debt repayments are set to consume nearly four out of every five shillings collected in taxes and other ordinary government revenue in the current financial year ending June 30, 2027, tightening the squeeze on funding for public services, development projects and other public spending.

The National Treasury projects total debt service at Sh2.30 trillion in the year to June 2027, equivalent to 79.8 percent of ordinary revenue, increased from 72.4 percent last financial year.
