Toyota signs another farm machine deal

Toyota Tsusho East Africa and a global manufacturer of agricultural equipment have signed a deal to distribute machinery, the second such pact by Toyota in three months.

Toyota Kenya, a subsidiary, mid-January struck a deal to distribute Yanmar tractors and the plan to distribute Case tractors signal the battle for the market with CMC Motors, Tata Africa and FMD East Africa.

Early this year, Toyota Tsusho won a Sh103 billion ($1.2 billion) contract to build a fertiliser plant in the country, cementing its agricultural investments in Kenya.

The franchise will see Toyota set up a distribution network for Case IH tractors in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.

“The partnership is focused to be a well respected and reliable agricultural machinery supplier,” said Dennis Awori, a director of Toyota EA.
