The volume of deliberately suppressed electricity generation to balance demand and supply on the national grid dipped to the second-lowest level in five years in the year to June 2026, signaling increased consumption of power during off-peak hours.

The concept technically known as electricity curtailment entails the pre-emptive cut or rejection of power generation by grid operators when output exceeds transmission capacity, system flexibility, or local demand.
