Tech giant Google rejected 61.9 percent of requests from the Kenyan government to remove content such as YouTube videos and search listings amid a surge in takedown demands, underscoring growing friction between the State and global technology firms.

Google declined 26 of the 42 items it received from Kenya, citing national security, defamation, and hate speech in the six months to June.
