Kenya leaders protest as Tanzania bans foreign businesses
Truck drivers wait near their parked vehicles at the Namanga one stop border crossing point between Kenya and Tanzania, in Namanga, Kenya on May 12, 2020.
Kenyan lawmakers and business leaders in East Africa are protesting the latest roadblock erected by Tanzania barring foreigners from accessing its market for farm produce and setting up small businesses in a bid to shield local companies.
In the new policy, Tanzania has blocked foreigners from engaging in 15 key economic activities, including retail, hairdressing, mobile money transfer services, phone repairs, small-scale mining, real estate agency, tour guiding and other small-scale businesses.
