Mid-sized firms told to seize opportunities on digital platforms

Kenya’s mid-sized companies have been urged to deepen their presence in digital platforms to speed up their growth.

Nation Media Group chief operating officer Tom Mshindi said the world, including consumers, have gone digital making it imperative for businesses to embrace new technology in order to engage them.

“Digital platforms have become popular with consumers and businesses must respond to this by increasing their visibility online,” he said.

Mr Mshindi said that increased consumption of the media on digital platforms offers businesses a golden chance to connect with customers in real time.

He was speaking at Strathmore Business School in Nairobi where NMG hosted the 2013 Top 100 SMEs for a networking breakfast.

The annual Top 100 survey is an initiative of the Business Daily, a publication of the Nation Media Group and consultancy firm KPMG.

Strathmore Business School is the training sponsor for the survey. Other sponsors include DTB, Safaricom, Sage Pastel, Nairobi Securities Exchange and UAP Insurance.

Firms qualify to participate in the survey if they have an annual turnover of between Sh70 million and Sh1 billion. Organisers are already receiving entries for this year’s survey with the gala ceremony slated for October 10.

Meanwhile, readers of the Business Daily will in the next two weeks be able to download an e-paper reader app that will enable them read a soft version of the newspaper on their android smartphones.
