Contractors and suppliers to counties will continue to suffer as the devolved units renege on a commitment to settle pending bills, even as they accumulated additional bills of Sh25.8 billion in the 12 months to December 2024.

The latest Controller of Budget (CoB) report shows that county pending bills increased by 16.6 percent to close at Sh182 billion by the end of December 2024, with most of the devolved units walking back payment plans they set for themselves leaving the risk of closure of businesses even more imminent.
