Team to select top lawyers for senior counsel title nominated
The last admission of advocates to the Senior Counsel Bar was in August 2022 by retired President Uhuru Kenyatta. Currently, Kenya’s Roll of Senior Counsel has 66 members.
The Senior Counsel Bar has nominated its representatives to the influential committee that picks out the lawyers to be conferred the Senior Counsel title and dignity, setting the stage for the selection process after a three-year hiatus.
This development comes amid disagreements among lawyers regarding a proposal that would give the President the authority to bypass the Committee on Senior Counsel and grant the title of senior counsel to certain advocates in public and political roles.
