Top spy set to replace Tobiko as chief prosecutor

  • President Uhuru Kenyatta has picked Noordin Mohammed Haji for appointment as the next Director of Public Prosecutions.

President Uhuru Kenyatta has picked a top officer at the spy agency Noordin Mohammed Haji for appointment as the next Director of Public Prosecutions.

Mr Kenyatta has forwarded Mr Haji’s name together with that of Justice (rtd) Paul Kihara Kariuki, who has been nominated for appointment as Attorney-General, to Parliament for vetting.

Mr Haji, who is the son of Garisssa Senator Yusuf Haji, is a law graduate of Wales College, Cardiff.

At the National Intelligence Service he was deputy director in charge of economic crime with breaches like money laundering, terrorism and corruption under his watch. 

“...I wish to report to the House that I have received a message from His Excellency the President seeking the National Assembly’s approval of Justice (Rtd.) Paul Kihara Kariuki for appointment as the Attorney-General, in exercise of powers vested in him under Article 156(2) of the Constitution,” National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi said in a communication to MPs.
