M ercy Mutemi, the executive director of The Oversight Lab Africa, has taken on big tech, notably representing 185 content moderators who allege they were trafficked to Kenya and subjected to forced labour to moderate content across Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp.
“We knew who we were fighting for and why,” she says. “It was always about the people harmed by tech.”
